As production volumes grow while delivery schedules and quality demands keep tightening, there is increasing potential to enhance overall plant productivity and efficiency by implementing automated in-mill logistics and dispatch operations. The benefits materialize through effective material handling, tracking, packing, storage, and shipping systems.
This paper discusses the opportunities to boost a steel plant’s logistics with a view to material handling and shipping, including loading and truck turnaround times. The key to this approach, 3D simulation models, and applicable technology from a single source specializing in enhancement of material flows is presented with reference case results.
