Pesmel to deliver fully automated logistic system with steel coil storages to JSW Steel
Pesmel has signed a contract to deliver two automated steel coil high-bay storages with mill logistics to JSW Steel in India. The delivery is a part of JWS’s 2,3 billion-euro investment program for the Vijayanagar mill in Toranagallu, Karnataka. Pesmel’s scope of supply includes a complete control system and a customer coil shipping storage for cold rolling mill (CRM) 1 and expansion of the existing Pesmel 2014-delivered storage for CRM 2. Start-up of both deliveries is scheduled for 2020.
In Pesmel’s CRM1 delivery, the coils are transferred by coil cars from packing to storage and further to truck and train loading. The TransCoil high-bay storage has a capacity of 1,500 coils to be handled by two high-speed stacker cranes and controlled by an advanced warehouse management system (WMS). The storage is an integrated part of the product delivery chain, enabling efficient and accurate customer deliveries.
All material flows in the storage infeed, storage, and shipping areas are automatically managed by a dedicated control system delivered by Pesmel. The system, inclusive of the WMS and the yard management system (YMS), controls the operation of nine automated overhead cranes as well as all storage and shipping functions. This enables real-time coil tracking at all times without unnecessary interfaces to other systems.
For CRM2, Pesmel will supply a capacity extension of 990 coils to the current capacity of 2,000. In addition to enlargement of the racking, the delivery includes one stacker crane.
“We are delighted to continue cooperation with JSW and play a major part in realizing their investment plan. Today, intelligent material flows are a must for a modern and productive steel mill. JSW is an excellent example of how enhancing material flows can make a difference. Implementation of smart factory and industry 4.0 tools have a favorable effect towards lowering of operating expenses and ensuring the reliability of the entire process.” says Mr. Juha Suksi, VP Metals from Pesmel.
